JOB HUNTING

Oh the joys of job hunting. All the world wants an intern, but no one wants to pay. A lot of companies aren’t even hiring their interns. Then other companies want someone who’s been in the industry for years. So question 1: How am I supposed to get an internship when I can no longer get college credit?

Okay so let’s pretend that  I do get an internship. If a company keeps getting people to work for them without paying them,Question 2:  isn’t that similar to modern day slavery?

Now they’ll probably say, “well you’re getting college credit for it and experience for it” Good point, but you’re paying for college credit. So you’re giving up your money, and your time, and you don’t get a job in the end. OH hey you get to put it on a resume. Lots of people can put things on a resume, but that extra bullet point doesn’t pay for sushi.

Okay so time for question number 3: If these companies want someone who’s experienced how are young people supposed to get experience when no one is hiring? Just wondering.

So onto the matter of industries. I recently spotted a job listing where they wanted someone with 8 years of social networking experience. Question number 4: Did we even have social networking around 8 years ago, I don’t think soooooooooooooooooooooo.

Anyway, I wish everyone lots of luck in this hard time. But as I told my friend, those of us who can come out of this time period with our heads on and hopefully a smile on our faces will be all right. If we can make it throug the hard times, then we can excel in the good times.
